Capt-iv8 is an amateur DJ and aspiring producer focused on immersive trance storytelling through deep grooves, timeless melodies and uplifting moments that build into a complete journey from first beat to final fade.
The voyage began in the late 90s while serving as a Navigation Officer with P&O Cruises, where the crew bar became an unlikely proving ground for regular trance sessions. Back then the decks were commandeered under the name DJ Massive, allegedly for the scale of the tunes, though it may have had something to do with the food.
After the legendary 1-triple-9 Camel Rave in Cape Town with close friends, a return to the UK meant regular pilgrimages to GodsKitchen, Leeds Warehouse and the epicentre of it all... Gatecrasher in Sheffield. Those nights left a permanent mark.
Years later, now a Captain, the crew still indulge the occasional set, a captive audience, quite literally, and so Capt-iv8 was born.
It remains a passion project. A creative outlet. A space for proper trance, the kind that tells a story. One day, as I keep telling my wife, there may even be a hit record.
Until then, the sea shanties stay electronic and the voyage continues.
